—Time must be considered in its dimension of awaiting or anticipation,
without any anticipating aiming; it must thus be considered
as having engulfed its intentionality of awaiting, in an
awaiting that is patience or pure passivity, a pure undergoing without
a taking upon oneself (contrary to the suffering in which there
is a taking charge of). This is a non-taking upon oneself or a nonassumption
of what is equivalent to no content. A nonassumption
of the infinite, a disquietude: here, that is a relation without the
willing [vouloir] of intentionality, which would be a willing proportionate
to itself. There would thus be a deference whose effect
one could never obtain. The "never" of patience would be the always
of time.
