　　Here in the hills were buffaloes. I had even, in my very young days whenI could not live till I had killed one of each kind of African animal——shot a bullout here. Later on, when I was not so interested to shoot as to watch the wild animals,I have been out to see them again, but twice I had to go back without success. But one afternoon as I was having tea with some friends outside the house, Denyscame flying from Nairobi and went over our heads westwards; and a little while afterturned and came back and landed on the farm. I drove to the plane to bringhim hack, but he would not get out of his plane.　"I cannot come," I said, "I have got a tea-party, up at the house. "　"But we will go and see them and be back in a quarter of an hour," he said. This sounded to me like the suggestions which people make to you in a dream. SoI went up with him. It did not take us long to see the buffaloes from the air; we countedthem as they peacefully mixed and separated on the open ground closed in by bushes（~）. There was one very old big black bull, and a number of young ones; if astranger had come near them they would have heard or smelt him at once, but theywere not prepared for something from the air. They heard the noise of our machine andstopped feeding, but they did not seem to be able to look up. In the end they realizedthat something very strange was about; the old bull first walked out in front of theothers. Suddenly he began to go down the valley side and after a moment he broke intoa run. The whole group now followed him, rushing hurriedly down into the bushes. Ina small wood of low trees they stopped and kept close together. Here they believedthemselves to be out of sight. We flew up and away. It was like having been takenthere by a secret unknown mute.

前言

　　英语阅读理解从形式上来看可分为广义上的阅读理解和狭义上的阅读理解。广义上的阅读理解，即通过对一篇文章、一段对话，甚至一个句子的阅读，以达到理解之目的。在现代各类考试中的表现形式有：完形填空、阅读理解、短文改错、补全对话、短文填空等。狭义上的阅读理解就是我们常见的一种“阅读理解”题目，这种阅读理解题目的表现形式又可细分为回答问题、正误判断、单项选择、完成句子、任务型阅读等。　　我们推出的“飞越阅读”系列丛书，就是按两种阅读理解形式而编写，即“飞越阅读·周周测”和“飞越阅读·每日一篇”。这两套丛书可同时使用也可单独选用。　　“飞越阅读·每日一篇”丛书仅按常见的阅读理解题型，即狭义上的阅读理解进行编写，它包括初中和高中两个部分。每个年级分为两册，每册分为20套，一周一套，从星期一至星期日每日一篇训练题，每套训练题综合各类教材内容，按照最新课程标准、英语教学大纲及考试大纲要求编写，注重针对性、实用性，内容丰富、选材广泛：原汁原味，部分来自于美国之音。本丛书有利于读者突破阅读瓶颈，领略地道英语的无限魅力，进而全方位提高英语水平。　　本套阅读丛书由湖北省高考状元学校华中师大一附中特级教师吴云老师和黄冈中学特级教师陈明星老师主编，由两校具有丰富教学和考试辅导经验的高级教师及张鑫友语言研究中心中学英语课题组部分同志合力编写，最后由我国外语界著名学者张鑫友教授亲自审订。

内容概要

　　吴云毕业于华中师范大学英语系，现任教于华中师范大学第一附属中学。她多年来工作在教学第一线，先后带了十几届高三毕业班。20世纪80代末她所教的学生中，吴稷的高考英语成绩为湖北省多年唯一的满分；杨柳是1992年高考湖北省文科状元。吴云长期担任年级英语教学备课组长、学校英语教研组组长，曾被评为武昌区“优秀班主任”，华中师大“优秀共产党员”、“优秀女教工”和全国。优秀英语教师”。1989年她被国家教委选派，在澳大利亚进行了》年的文化交流，2002年随湖北省科协代表团赴美国进行教育考察。
　　多年来，吴云主编、参编并出版了《生日礼物》、《高中英语手册》、《高中英语听力教程》等几十本图书．并撰写了《运用启发式进行英语词汇教学》和《英语教学中的德育渗透》等学术论文数篇。
　　吴云是武昌区英语教学研究学会理事，武汉市英语教学研究学会及湖北省英语教学研究学会会员。曾被湖北教育学院聘为兼职教授，被清华同文聘为特邀名师。
