珍贵的佛陀言论（中英对照）

佛陀： 　　　　It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell. 　　　　征服你自己胜于打赢千场战役，那时真正的胜利才会是你的，没有人可以夺走它，不管是天使还是恶魔，天堂或地狱都无法夺走它。 　　　　佛陀： 　　　　Our life is shaped by our mind; we become what we think. Suffering follows an evil thought as the wheels of a cart follow the oxen that draws it. 　　　　我们的生活由自己的心智所打造；我们将变成我们所想的。痛苦跟随恶念就像车轮跟着拉着它走的公牛。 　　　　Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life. 　　　　就像蜡烛没有火就无法燃烧一样，人没有精神生活就无法生存。 　　　　佛陀： 　　　　A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden. 　　　　家是一个许多心智互相接触的地方，如果这些心智彼此相爱，这家将美如花园。如果这些心智彼此不和谐，那就会像风暴一样将花园弄得乱七八糟。 　　　　佛陀： 　　　　Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom. 　　　　沈思（冥想）带来智慧；缺乏沈思使人留在无知。弄清楚什么东西带你前进以及什么东西扯你后腿，然后选择通往智慧的路。 　　　　Meditate. Live purely. Be quiet. Do your work with mastery. Like the moon, come out from behind the clouds! Shine. 　　　　沈思。生活清净。保持安静。熟练你的工作。像月亮一样，走出乌云！闪耀。 　　　　佛陀： 　　　　Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned. 　　　　抓住愤怒不放就像手里拿着一块烧红的煤炭意图扔给别人一样；烧伤的是你自己。 　　　　佛陀： 　　　　The mind is the source of happiness and unhappiness. 　　　　心智是快乐与不快乐的源头。 　　　　He who experiences the unity of life sees his own Self in all beings, and all beings in his own Self, and looks on everything with an impartial eye. 　　　　那体验过生命统一的人在所有的存在中看见他的「真我」，也在他的「真我」中看见所有的存在，因此他以不偏不依的眼光看待每一件事。 　　　　佛陀： 　　　　On life's journey 　　　　Faith is nourishment, 　　　　Virtuous deeds are a shelter, 　　　　Wisdom is the light by day and 　　　　Right mindfulness is the protection by night. 　　　　If a man lives a pure life nothing can destroy him; 　　　　If he has conquered greed nothing can limit his freedom. 　　　　在人生旅途上 　　　　信仰是滋养品， 　　　　善行是避难所， 　　　　智慧是白天的光而 　　　　正觉是夜晚的防护。 　　　　人如果生活纯净没有任何东西能摧毁他； 　　　　如果他已经征服了贪婪没有任何东西能限制他的自由。
