　　UNIT 8 On Biography　　Biography is an account of oneS life that has been written by someone else·Itshould be a truthful reflection of the subject’s life and work．However，the writer ofthis review article，Kathryn Hughes，believes that Karl，the biographer of George Eliot，didnt present Eliot’s life and work as it was．K．Hughes shows in this article that G·Eliot was a woman whose character was full of contradictions and complexities·Shewas far from perfect．Instead of exploring all those loose ends，irrelevancies andunfinishedness of Eliot’s life，Karl smoothed them over to produce an outstandingheroine of mythic achievements．His biography leaves no room for the reader to drawconclusions for themselves．K．Hughes believes that biographers should not make readers admire the subject uncritically．
