译文商榷

梭罗有些比喻有点玄，给人不知所谓的感觉，所以译文有些地方看起来不太明白但并不能说一定是弄错了。下面仅列出那些我认为比较明显的有疑问的地方。P.26-27□even as radii from the earth's centre go on diverging into space.□（后者是前者的升华和扩张，）就算地球半径从地心继续朝太空偏离也不会改变。even在这里似乎更像是exactly、precisely的意思。“就像（两条线沿）地球半径从地心向外延伸进入太空一样”。P.30-31□I feel that I am unworthy to have received or to answer them, though they are addressed, as I would have them(,) to the ideal of me.□我感到自己没有资格收到这些信件或是回复它们，虽然这些信都如我所期待的那样针对我的理想。书上have them后面没有逗号，似乎是漏了。加上逗号，as一句就是插入语，they就是addressed to the ideal of me的。因为我自觉并不是ideal of me，所以才觉得unworthy to have received or answer them，这样才说得通。P.36-37□Greene, who had edited..., was a friend of Thoreau's friend and townsman the educator Amos Bronson Alcott,...□格林是梭罗一位朋友的朋友，也是同城教育家阿莫斯·B.奥尔科特的朋友，……friend和townsman应该是一起的，a friend of Thoreau's [friend and townsman], i.e, the educator ABA.P.38-39□Let God alone if need be.□如果必要，不要去打扰上帝。后文说，如果越爱上帝，就越要对他敬而远之。所以这句话应该是“如无必要，不要去打扰上帝。”或更准确些，译成“（如果）可以的话，不要去打扰上帝。”P.41□[注释2：]短语（much ado about nothing）来自莎士比亚的一部喜剧的题目，该剧写于1598年或稍晚一点。原文为英语，自当如此，但译成汉语，是不是应该把这部剧的剧名（《无事生非》）翻出来呢？P.150-151□ostensibly because Curtis had not realized that...□显然是因为柯蒂斯没有意识到……ostensibly是“表面上看”，表面上看没有意识到，实际上是在装傻。P.166-167□As Thoreau remarks, the books arrived on November 30—— appropriately enough, aboard a ship named Asia.□正如梭罗所说，书于11月30日到达——搭载它们的船名为“亚洲”，真是恰当不过了。恰当的应该是书到的时间。前面说到11月9日梭罗开始收集木柴，并且用从河里捞起来的浮木给寄来的书做书架。书架做好了，书也到了，所以appropriately enough。P.176-177□I made just one crystal of sugar once, one twentieth of an inch cube out of a pumpkin, & it sufficed. Though the yield be no greater than that,——...□我有一次只熬出了一块晶莹的枫糖，只是南瓜熬出的一英寸方糖的1/20，但已经足够了。虽然产出的糖不比那次多——……once似乎应该是“每次/一次”的意思。最后一个that指用南瓜熬出的糖。后文也说“它甜得多”。P.196-197□My extremities well charred, and my intellectual part too, so that there is no danger of worm or rot for a long while.□我的四肢已经烧焦，我的思想也是，所以很长时间都没有虫蛀或腐烂的危险。表面炭化是木材防腐防蛀的措施之一，这里也是这个意思。“烧焦”多少有点耸人听闻的感觉。P.228-231□Its broad base spreads over a village or two, which do not know it; neither does it know them, nor do I when I ascend it.□……山也不知道村庄的存在，甚至在我爬山的时候我也不知道它的存在。这个“它”指代不明。原文应该是“村庄”，而村庄是“them”。
