研究机构：普林斯顿大学广播研究室（the Office of Radio Research of Princeton University）

研究目的：找出导致人们把广播剧作为新闻加以接受的心理条件和社会情境。（受恐慌影响的范围？为什么产生恐慌？为什么一些人恐慌而另一些没有？）
研究方法：个人访谈、抽样调查、报纸的叙述分析（非常好的角度！）、信件分析。
研究发现和分析：

The heart of the change from traditional to modern society:
1. Industrialization
-alienation of the industrial worker
-factory system: social relationships in these new communities tended to be culturally rootless and personally anonymous.
-corporation: brought a new dependence on bureaucracy as a form of social organization.
2. Urbanization
-it brings unlike people together, life in the new cities was characterized by a confusion of the rules, customs, and traditions.
-Trust was replaced by distrust, contract rather than the handshake becomes the principal basis for regulating obligations between people.
3. Modernization
-Innovations changed every aspects of life.
-Time scheduling assumed a new importance.
-material lifestyles, based on consumption were quite different at each level in the stratification system, products served as status symbols, and it caused another basis for social differentiation.
