本書收錄了美國哈佛大學教授/台灣學者王德威先生的一組共四篇論文:《傷痕書寫,國家文學》、《重讀張愛玲的〈秧歌〉與〈赤地之戀〉》、《歷史與怪獸》、《歷史記憶與大學之道》。
本組四篇文章對傷痕書寫與國家文學分別提出不同角度的解讀;檢討一九四九年以來身處不同境地的中國作家負載着當代政治,重新打造了一種傷痕書寫,體現國家在追尋現代性過程中被斵傷、撕裂的遭遇;進而叩問:傷痕與國家機器的關係何在?我們需要什麽樣的傷痕論述與國家文學?更重要的,在告別傷痕的同時,我們如何檢討國家文學,以免成爲下一個時代的「預知」傷痕紀事?

  •     Four inspiring articles included in this book,they are "Writings of the Scarred and National Literature","Reread Eileen Chang's The Rice Sprout Song and The Naked Earth","The Monster That Is History",and "History,Memory and The Dao of Universities:Four Tales of Successors".I like the fourth article,which addresses four intellectuals,何其芳、馮志、唐君毅and林語堂, undergoing respective transformation in the middle of last century. They all had to confront the same target: How should they proceed with college teaching when their surroundings were different?David's analysis is really amazing.From the perspective of literaty history, he wants to say that if universities are not merely the loci of delving into knowledge,but also the place where the literati dedicate themselves to questing for the significance of living, these four characters' writings may be the reflection of the Dao of universities. In the confluence of the writings and the Dao, the dialogue between "what-should-be" and "what-have-been" of the middle of the 2oth century can be interpreted from various angles.

  •     “伤痕书写,国家文学”揭示历史的绵延,将“伤痕”这一沉疴与革命诗学推至二十世纪中叶,引发的身体政治在意识形态、道德乃至书写形式层面之间的复杂辩证。伤痕书写许诺痊愈,却不期带来更多伤痕;伤痕意在干预和介入,终因反复重申掏空意义,造成疏离;“重读张爱玲的《秧歌》与《赤地之恋》”写得最好:一面发掘前者假饥饿/暴力与饥饿/叙事两线的辩证互动,暴露共产革命话语中的饥饿主题左支右绌;一面论证后者寄托了张氏对十里洋场的最后怀想,先前作品的互文映照,以及通过叙事将男主遣返大陆完成她独特奇异的反共大业;“历史,记忆,与大学之道”写得最一般,假四位处于大变局之下的文人(何其芳、冯至、林语堂、唐君毅)的境遇,无论是离散飘零,投身革命还是主动改造思想,皆可说明他们的文学著述与大学之道交汇之际,即成为大学之道的倒影。
