Into HidingThe islander slips into hidingAnd takes to his heelsOut of dark NorthlandThe murky house of SaraHe whirled out of doors as snowArrives as smoke in the yardTo flee from bad deedsThere he had to become someone elseHe must change his shapeAs an eagle he swept upWanted to soar heavenwardThe sun burnt his cheeksThe moon lit his brows3. The CastawayA bird flew out of LaplandAn eagle from the North EastOne wing ruffled the waterAnd the other swept the skyIt's tail skimmed the seaIt flutters, it glidesIt looks, it turns round"Why, man are you in the seaFellow, among the billows?"4. First DoomThe mountains of NorthShall erupt and flamesOf darkland will raiseHail to one who hailsBlood for one who bleedsO you mistress of northlandQueen of darklandI may wash my hands of theEvil master's bloodFor that is no man's doomWhich I bringThat is child's doomAnd it shall be the First doom5. Black Winter DayThis is how the lucky feelHow the blessed man thinkLike a daybreak in springThe sun on a spring morningLike the flat brink of a cloudLike a dark night in autumnBut how do I feel,In my gloomy depths? This is how the lucky feelHow the blessed man thinkLike a daybreak in springLike the flat brink of a cloudLike a dark night in autumnA black winter dayThis is how the lucky feelHow the blessed man thinkLike a daybreak in springThe sun on a spring morningLike the flat brink of a cloudLike a dark night in autumnA black winter dayNo darker than thatGloomier than an autumn nightA black winter day6. Drowned MaidI went to wash at the shoreI went to bathe in the seaAnd there I, a hen, was lostI, a birdUntimely diedLet not my brotherEver in this worldWater his war-horseUpon the seashore!Waters of the seaSo much blood of mineFishes of the seaSo much flesh of mineSuch the death of the young maidEnd of the fair little hen7. In The BeginningI have a good mindTake into my headTo start of singingBegan recitingWe seldom get togetherAnd meet each otherOn these poor bordersThe luckless lands of the northThose words we have gotFrom the North's furthest fields,From the heaths of Kalevala8. Forgotten SunriseOnce I had a mindAnd thoughts was givenBut nowadays, in this evil ageAll my sense is somewhere elseOnce I had a soulI was one with my godBut now I am abandonedBanished from these liesLong my tale's been in the coldFor ages has lain hiddenI know how to bewitch fireAnd how to fame flamesI know how to banish wormsAnd turn snakes away9. To Fathers CabinO old man, good godCareful man of heavenKeeper of storm cloudsMake misty weatherAnd create a tiny cloudIn whose shelter I may go10. Magic And MayhemHey there, tiny wenchMy perpetual serfPut stew in a potBring water for the guestBefore we partBefore your neck is brokenYou strike firstSon of the northTomi Koivusaari : Vocals / rhythm guitarsEsa Holopainen : Lead guitarsOlli-Pakka Laine : BassJan Rechnerger : DrumsKasper Martenson : Keyboards & Moog
