版权页：插图：In the second half of 2003, Shanghai Modern Theatre remained a loyal supporter of the "white-collar theatre" subgenre, with productions of the stage plays Shanghai zuo nu (based on Zhang Kangkang's novel Zuo nii) and Perfume (Xiangshui), both directed by the young director ShiJun. In 2004, the Theatre rolled out the dramas Dushi zhenghou qun and Long Live the Wife (Taitai wan sui). With its deeply moving storyline, Dushi zhenghou qun is centered on the many different psychological problems facing modern urban professionals. While the performance is relatively conventional in form during its first half, the second half appears less like a play than a television talk show, as if a "psychological support hotline" has emerged on the theatre stage. This high level of originalitv, combined with the play's band accompaniment and strong stage-audience interaction, makes for an interesting and entertaining performance.Shanghai Modem Theatre was instrumental in making "white-collar drama" a fast-rising force in Shanghai's theatre scene. As this new subgenre grew in scale, it became an important part of Shanghai's leisure-and-entertainment culture. Capitalizing on this trend, the Shanghai Drama Center held more and more white-collar dramas and enjoyed consistently high ticket sales. In the span of only a few years, over twenty white-collar dramas were performed in Shanghai's theatre community.

《话剧·感受中国(英文)》内容简介：In April 1928, at a forum to commemorate the iooth anniversary of the birth of Henrik Ibsen, dramatist Hong Shen proposed that the English word "drama" be translated as huaju ("spoken drama") in order to differentiate it from traditional Chinese opera, which combines singing, dialogue, dancing and martial arts. Since then, the term huaju has been carried forward up to the present day.
