陈幸宇是一位上海本地作家和当代艺术评论家，曾任Time Out Shanghai杂志的艺术编辑，为Art Asia Pacific, Sculpture magazine, the International Herald Tribune, Yishu Journal of Contemporary Art, Nukta Art等多本杂志撰文。其公司Shanghai Culture专为艺术圈友人及艺术爱好者们策划组织上海艺术之旅。陈幸宇过去生活在纽约，后于佛蒙特明德学院学习影音艺术，2002年开始在上海定居。

Xhingyu Chen is a writer and contemporary art specialist based in Shanghai.  Formerly the art editor for Time Out Shanghai, she writes for Art Asia Pacific, Sculpture magazine, the International Herald Tribune, Yishu Journal of Contemporary Art, and Nukta Art.  Through her company, Shanghai Culture, she also organizes and leads art tours in Shanghai for art world professionals and art lovers alike.  Originally from New York City, she studied Studio Art at Middlebury College, Vermont.  She has lived in Shanghai since 2002.

What is "New Media" Art? Generally, new media art is associated with graphic art and digital technologies. "New Media" can be applied to a medium that does not necessarily employ digital technologies. The twentieth century introduced a great many mediums that expanded the definition of what art is, and compared to the many millennia that art history covers, these mediums can certainly be seen as "new." In the last hundred years alone, the art world has embraced performance and conceptual art, film and video, installation, sound art, and most recently, digital art. New media can be applied to all these terms, and the artists included in the book employ methods of one or two or all of these mediums.

The 2008 global financial crisis caused a precipitous drop in the multi-million dollar auction prices that modern Chinese art was fetching. This has led some Chinese artists back to their roots, a highly experimental approach with new media that was born in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Become familiar with those artists who bucked the trend, even in the height of the boom. A retrospective of works and brief introductions to 19 Chinese artists working in performance and conceptual art, film and video, installation, sound art, and digital art. This is a select group that has created the landscape of contemporary Chinese art and are dictating its future.
