Febrile neutropenia is an oncologic and medical emergency and defined as fever at a neutropenic patient. Fever is defined as higher than 38.3°C (101°F) or higher than 38.0°C (100.4°F) for more than one hour, in a patient who has received chemotherapy in the past month [1-3]. Neutropenia is defined by an absolute neutrophil count (ANC) less than 0.5 × 109 cells/L or an ANC less than 1.0 × 109 cells/L with an expected fall to less than 0.5 × 109 cells/L within the next 48 hours [3-5].
