作者简介

Karen and Rob are the well-intentioned parents of a teenage son, Tommy, who believe they can avoid the emotional fallout of their failed two-career marriage. Both are successful individuals who have pursued other personal relationships since their divorce, but have managed to stay connected through their son. When Tommy goes off the tracks, his troubles send shock waves through relationships on all sides. Staggering under the weight of his parents' expectations and need for denial, Tommy risks everything—and Avery Corman turns everyday life into a brilliant page-turning drama. Not since Kramer vs. Kramer, Corman's landmark novel and the basis for the Academy Award-winning motion picture, have truths about us—about marriage, divorce and parenting—been so accurately and emotionally dramatized.

  •     Wallerstein and her co-authors confront other aspect of the myth. One is the misguided notion that any crisis for the child is temporary, confined to the time of the divorce, and that children are better off and happier when their parents are happier. The book reports that children are relatively content despite how unhappy their parents may be ,as long as the family stay together.Childhood, even with intact families,is never trouble-free.The fact that the most important emotional structure in the child's life----the parents' marriage----ends in failure becomes forever embeded in that child's history. Having said that, here's what I know too:You can get past being a child of divorce, you can get around it, you can overcome it.People do it all the time. And what they are doing----and some divorce parents may not be comfortable with this----is overcoming their trauma.
